8. Nasal sprays are a great alternative to the standard flu shot

Nasal flu sprays may be a tempting alternative to the needle-adverse, but they aren’t for everyone. According to experts, the former are only recommended for healthy individuals ages 2 through 49.

The CDC recommends that the nasal flu vaccine be avoided by pregnant women, children under 2, adults age 50 and older, people with compromised immune systems, and patients with underlying medical records that can potentially increase the risk of flu-related complications. This includes those with lung disease, diabetes, kidney disease, and heart disease.

So, don’t fall prey to flu shot myths, and check with your health care provider to ensure whatever vaccine you choose is the best option for you.
